PixelSoft, Inc. proudly announces the license-free availability of an ISO standard Programmer’s Imaging Kernel System scientific profile image processing software package. The package consists of three parts: a PIKS C language Application Program Interface (API) software system for Microsoft Windows software development; PIKSTool, an interactive graphics-oriented software package for algorithm development without the need of program compilation; and an extensive library of digital images in the PIKS and TIFF formats. This software package is provided license-free, down loadable from the PixelSoft web site.
PIKS API features:
International Standard The PIKS API was approved in 1994 as the first, and only, international standard API for image processing by the International Organization for Standardization as part of the Image Processing and Interchange standard ISO/IEC 12087.
Processing Capability PixelSoft’s PIKS Scientific software contains over 250 processing elements, which can be used to create sophisticated imaging applications. PIKS includes a repository of commonly used convolution impulse response arrays, dither arrays and color conversion matrices.
Mathematical Definitions PIKS image processing operators are specified in complete mathematical detail. Developers can precisely determine the functionality of each operator.
Object Oriented Imaging Model PIKS provides a level of programming abstraction that frees the developer from many programming details such as memory management and data structure generation.
Self-Describing Program Interface Each PIKS element is syntactically defined by a simple character string C language program interface that is self-describing in terms of functionality and data type.
These features, which are not provided by any other single proprietary API, are vital to application developers.
